Up: The House with Balloons

A look back at my latest Blender project: a faithful recreation of the house from Up (Pixar) with realistic particles and textures

New Omnis School tutorial, recreating Carl Fredricksen’s house from the Pixar film Up.

Well, I actually didn’t follow the video very closely and instead picked up elements here and there, focusing mainly on the general idea. I decided to start by recreating the actual house as faithfully as possible rather than building the suggested cabin. For the balloons, instead of duplicating a mesh, I used particles. I also put a lot of work into the scenery and the animation.

At first, I wanted to use procedural textures for the house, but the result was never quite right.

So, I ended up using textures, such as the ambientCG roofing tiles or the wood shutters from Poly Haven, adapted to match the various elements. I have used BlenderKit for trees. Finally, for the lighting, I used the river alcove, also from Poly Haven. And here is the result:

Regarding series, I started the new Apple TV+ series, Imperfect Women and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. While the demon of Hell’s Kitchen really won me over with its approach to anti-fascist resistance—which is very close to the current reality in the U.S.—the series starring Kerry Washington is pretty dismal, a bad telenovela without the excuse of a limited budget.
