This week, I wanted to try something new: sculpting. At first, I had decided to follow How to Sculpt Characters in 60 Minutes by Kenny Praise, but the lack of guidance for beginners was too overwhelming.
So I turned to Creating a cute character in Blender for complete beginners by Ryan King Art, which, as its title suggests, was more suitable for a first experience in sculpting with Blender.
I thought this little monster looked like Panic Pete from Jurassic Park. In the end, I finished the tutorial, but I wasn’t totally convinced by the result. I must have missed something, but my rendering was pretty mediocre, very pixelated, not very smooth, and this is particularly noticeable on the paint edges, which are a bit blurry. This is clearly visible in the EEVEE rendering below.
Even in Cycles with a similar framing, the imperfections are still very noticeable, even if it’s better.
So I moved the camera and changed a few aspects of the rendering, notably the glass at the back and the addition of subsurface scattering on the small character to give it a more appealing look. It’s still not perfect, but I’m relatively satisfied with the final result.
I also discovered the British series about an unconventional heist, Steal starring Sophie Turner, known for playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and soon to be Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider series by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve, Indiana Jones 5). Well, it’s not bad at all, but I can’t say anything without revealing spoilers, just like the famous Pluribus that I just started watching, and it’s very good so far. In the fourth episode, there’s a Panic Pete.
